Padres Break Season-Ticket Sales Record

February 2, 2004

SAN DIEGO -- Team officials announced Monday that the San Diego Padres have sold a record number of season tickets for the upcoming baseball season at the new Petco Park.

The Padres said more than 17,000 season tickets were sold through January, a new club record. Last season, the team sold 11,407 season tickets. The previous record was set in 1985, when the team sold 12,854 season tickets.

"Our initial projection was 17,500-18,000 season tickets, so we are extremely pleased to be trending well ahead of that pace, including exceeding January's season ticket sales forecast by nearly 250 percent," said Steve Violetta, the Padres' executive vice president of business operations.

Individual game tickets are expected to go on sale later this month.
